Food and Mental Health : A Surprisingly Deep Connection

The first things that come into our minds whenever we talk about mental health are therapy, medication, and self-care. Contrary to this, we never knew how close a relationship is between what we eat and how it relates to our mental well-being. Greatly, it is wonderful that all of us need to know that what we eat also speaks about how it leaves an impression on our mental well-being.

The Gut-Brain Axis

This is going to have a relation with the complex network through nerves, hormones, and even communicating chemicals talking together, which is referred to as the gut-brain axis. Neurotransmitters; these are serotonin and dopamine, which are released and controlled in their levels by the gut. It regulates a mood, controls appetite, sleep; that will be associated or linked with great or poor mental well-being.

Nutrients for Mental Health

Some of the nutrients that have been proven to be conditions to enhance better ones include the following:

1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids :

These develop the brain and reduce inflammation. Fatty fish, nuts, and seeds are the primary sources of their food content.
