Ice air updrafts in a storm carry droplets of water to form a large hail. In this instance, its size is high; frozen into a small ice ball and uplifted in the cloud for up-down motion by storm clouds till it grows big enough that it can no longer be suspended in the air, they fall to hit the ground as hail.
